Real beauty is what really matters

Ok, this Jennifer Love Hewitt thing is really getting outta control. Why is it that CNN, a supposed real news station, needs to keep talking about some bad pictures of an actress. Is this news??? So a paparazzi took some bad angle shots of her at the beach and they are not very flattering and because she is Jennifer Love Hewitt, somehow this is news. She has countered on her own blog. Listen, beach shot should not be front on, or back on in this case, not flattering for anybody, but let’s face it here, that bikini was not the best choice for her. J Love is a curvy girl, she’s got boobs and she’s got hips and I feel her pain, because I have them too. Strapless bikini tops are a no no when you have an ample bossum ok. A nice halter top would look much better. And those bottoms, having the “waistband” right on the widest part of the hips, not good either, does not help the angle. High cuts would be better. So it was a bad suit for her body type and bad angles and she was not posing or ready to be photographed so lets just leave her alone already. Who cares what size she is, she’s a tiny little thing and she looks good and healthy regardless of the number.

This is exactly why girls have so many issues these days with beauty and weight, even the real news stations are bombarding us with this nonsense. I am more and more content with my two boys and almost relieved I don’t have a daughter, it seems so much harder now than when I was growing up. And I was someone who was obcessed with models and the fashion industry growing up in the time that supermodels came into being. And yet, still, it’s worse now and not getting any better.

Dove is trying to help, with their Campaign for Real Beauty. Here is a little video that shows what young girls see when they watch tv, flip through magazine, walk around their towns, on a daily basis.

And we wonder why CNN feels the need to add their two cents to a ridiculous non story of an actress caught in a bad swimsuit on the beach.

I couldn’t agree more! I have a daughter and although I do my best to shelter her from the media’s distorted image of what beauty truly is, I realize that it’s only going to get harder as she gets older.

I do everything to empower her, to instill inner confidence and to teach her to be proud of who she is. My concern is that look who I am up against? Models, celebs, every-day people all starving, in some cases, literally dying to be thin and striving towards a non-reality based version of perfection. The worst part is, because this is what we all see and are bombarded with day after day, it’s hard to imagine that our own children won’t be subject to such scrutiny. We know that they will.

Bee, you mention that you are happy that you have boys, but even your little dudes are not immune. If they grow up seeing this false beauty, they too will come to think that every female that they encounter in life must look as perfect as the next supermodel or celebrity. Please, teach them too. Teach them about inner beauty. Teach them about real beauty. Teach them all that really matters.

I really believe that the media has no plans to change, so let’s turn the tables and teach our little ones to see things how they really are, instead of how they “appear” to be.

Yeah, I posted about the messages our daughters get on my blog back in August - between the media and the things we ourselves say it’s no wonder that the anorexia rates are skyrocketing.

I agree with Elle too - the boys need to learn about this stuff as well.

oh absolutely the boys need to learn about it as well and respect all women. I hope to instill some good values in my boys, trying anyways.

And it’s true, we have to watch ourselves too, I am aware to watch what I say with regards to weight and dieting and things like that.
