This week we are talking to single mom and podcast host Tishia Lee about her new show, Single Moms Talk Radio.
1. Tell us about your show and why you started it.
I started Single Mom’s Talk Radio (www.SingleMomsTalkRadio.com ) because I wanted a place to vent my frustrations, share my struggles and to connect with other women facing the same challenges I face as a single parent. Plus I was bitten by the Podcasting bug quite awhile ago and it’s just so much fun - I truly love podcasting and the freedom to share my stories & to hear others!
2. What has the experience of being a single mom been like for you?
It’s definitely been the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. I wouldn’t trade it for anything because my son is my pride and joy and when I sit back and watch him turning into the little man that he is I’m like wow I’ve done this, I’ve raised him to be the person he is - all by myself.
3. What are some of the biggest issues facing single moms, in your opinion?
Finances is the first thing that pops into my mind. All the other single mom’s that I’ve talked to or that I know shared their financial issues with me. From my opininon it’s hard to raise a family with both husband and wife working in today’s society so you take away the husband factor and it adds a huge stress to a single mom.
4. Support from family and friends is crucial for single moms, do you have a good support network?
Yes and no. My family is around but they don’t understand Caleb’s ADHD and why he’s so hyper all the time. Most of my family says that they would like to help me in the bad times but they don’t know what to do…LOL. Well sometimes I don’t either. It’s nice having family around for when I just need a break - a couple hours to myself or a night alone. And although my son’s dad isn’t a support to me in most of my parenting decisions it is nice knowing that every other weekend I get to myself while my son spends it with his dad - that’s a break that I need to recuperate from the weeks we’ve had together without a break!
5. What are your hopes for the show for the future?
To just keep having fun with it, bring more guests on, get more organized and to possibly start implementing a way to make money from it.
