10 things that being a mom has taught me about fashion…

24 October 2007 No Comment

1- Interesting prints are the NEW black - nothing conceals spit up, drool and surprise secretions better than an optical illusion.

2 - Dangling earrings are ONLY for the very brave or very foolish.

3- Never cut your hair shorter than ponytail length.  This quick-style is both a mother’s luxury and convenience.  It can look pulled together and prevent a case of the infant supergrip pain lock.  Anyone who has lost a fistful of hair to these little masters of destruction, knows exactly what I’m talking about. Oh, and don’t let a well-meaning hairstylist try to convince you otherwise!

4- Carrying a baby in one arm and an oversized diaper bag in the other is the NEW workout.  Your upper body never looked so good!

5- Avoid lowcut necklines if you have a nursing or recently weaned child.  Not following such directions could potentially lead to flashing the neighborhood the next time your little one gets hungry or is in desperate need of comfort.

6- Your diaper bag should not just consist of diapers and baby-related items; instead, be sure to leave room for a change of shirts.  You’ll thank me for it.

7 - Tank tops and cute tees are cool everyday wardrobe choices even in winter.  Why?  Because, a mom’s body temperature always runs several degrees hotter than the average person due to the fact that we are in constant workout mode -  carrying heavy objects: our infants, our toddlers and diaper bags, sometimes all at the same time.

8- Mom’s accessory of choice: Think of paci attachment clips as the NEW brooch.

9- Wearing a necklace is equivalent to wearing a noose.  Yes, tiny hands will not surrender till the cord breaks or you lose consciousness….whichever comes first!

10  - Stop resisting the sensible shoe movement…  Move the stilettos to the back of the closet and embrace cute ballerinas and cool sneakers.
