10 reasons why I’m happy to be home…
Now everyone who knows me is well aware that I have a serious love affair with the travel bug! So you would think that my recent return home from my latest trip would already see me going through withdrawl and wanting to hop on the next flight out, but alas, it’s not so. I can’t say for sure what the reason is, but somehow, I have come to appreciate my current homestead more than just about any place in the world. So here are my top ten reasons why I’m happy to be home:
1- Strong water pressure and consistently warm showers - Ahhh….need I say more?
2- A homecooked meal (I never thought I would get sick of restaurants, but I did.)
3 - Toilets that actually flush - Isn’t North American plumbing the best?! Who knew?
4 - Toilets you can actually sit on, instead of standing over a hole in the ground (Okay, I’m clearly really stuck on this toilet thing. Try teaching this little balancing act bordering on disaster to a 3 year old and what you’ll end up with is wet calves and soggy sandals. I’ve never used up so many wipes in my life as I did on this trip!)
5- Readily available Vanilla soymilk and Pomegranate juice for my morning smoothie (Oh how I missed you, my sweet morning concoction)
6 - A balanced meal (It’s incredible how much better your body functions when you eat properly)
7 - Highchairs!!! (Not sure what it is about major European cities, but although they love and welcome children, their dining facilities demonstrate quite the opposite.)
8 - Organized line-ups or queues (Okay, this isn’t true of all European cities but in several cases, there is a total disregard and lack of respect for any semblance of a line. You might start off first but you’ll soon find yourself 12th or 15th, maybe even last! This is particularly true of museums, train stations, planes, ferries and pretty much any public attractions.)
9 - Never having to fly Easyjet again (or Lazyjet as I now like to call them).
10 - Fluffy pillows (I bid you Adieu you flat little foam pancakes that seem to have found your way into just about every type of accomodation.)
