Could sneakers be the new sippy cup?

25 May 2007 3 Comments

I had to ask myself that exact question the other day as I began the weekly summer task of cleaning my pool.  Naturally, like all moms out there, I’ve become the queen of multi-tasking.  So I set up my infant son in the shaded gazebo with some toys, put my little daughter in her life vest and let her assist me with the hoses.  Of course, 5 mins into it, she got bored!  She decided that she wanted to water the landscaping that surrounds the pool.  With her flowerpot in hand she began her watering.

Ahhh…perfect I thought.  This is going so well.  Then I looked over only to find her sitting poolside with her sneakers off.  Nothing wrong with that, right?  Well, I beg to differ when you consider this next point…She had filled one of her sneakers with water and was drinking from it!!!

“What are you doing, I asked?”  ”My just drinking from my sneaker cup,” she said.  Although not ideal, no harm done I guess.  So after a warning, I headed back to my pool cleaning while she sat and watched.  Again, only momentarily of course.

Once again, boredom set in - it seems her 2 slides, swing set, bicycle, sandbox and bubble mower were not enough to keep her occupied, so she took her sneakers and threw them in the pool.  Then she started to pull off her clothes and threw them into the pool as well.  I ran over in the nick of time.  There she stood, bare bottomed from the waist down with only a life vest on and laughing hysterically.  I couldn’t help but develop a serious case of the giggles myself as I looked at her.

I don’t know what it is about 2 year olds, but their antics are so hilarious, my discipline tactics have gone straight out the window.  She makes me laugh so much I just can’t keep my poker face on.  Oh boy, I think this little girl has mommy right where she wants her.  Wrapped around the tiny finger, indeed!
