Let’s get naked!

20 April 2007 One Comment

Something strange is going on at my house these days…  While last week my toddler was into dressing up like a puppy, this week finds her in her birthday suit.  Not sure what it is, but every chance she gets, particularly after going potty, she strips down and then runs around the house dancing and giggling. She even goes so far as to tell us, “look, dis a my bum” and points to her little butt.  She grabs her clothes and stacks them into a pile and stomps on them, or she just throws them around at us.

While I have pretty much shrugged off the incident - assuming it’s just a phase, my husband is convinced that she’s going to grow up to be a stripper, a trollop or maybe something worse.  Yes, Dads are quite protective of their little girls, aren’t they?  Whenever she pulls a full Monty, he usually chases her around and quickly tries to redress her, saying sternly: “I don’t want you running around showing your cha cha to everybody.”  Yes, he refers to her privates as her cha cha!  LOL!  All kidding aside, I think that she actually feeds off the attention and that is why she keeps doing it, to get a reaction.  Although I tell this to my husband, he just keeps saying “Oh God, get me through the teen years.”  I guess that’s pretty much every parent’s nightmare age.  He swears to me that boys are evil and if I knew what they were thinking most of the time, I’d still be single. Ummm…no honey, there are alot of other things that make me say that already! ; )

No matter, I guess discovery is a reality of life and I think that it is our reaction that will have the biggest impact on helping her to develop a positive self image and a better understanding that her body is something private that belongs to her.  Seems like heavy stuff to be tackling at two, don’t you think?  Personally, I still think that at this tender age it’s best to just laugh it off, avoid making a fuss, and do your best to get those little clothes back on.  No harm done!

From what I hear of friends who have girls, they all go through this stage and it’s right about at this age. I guess I should be thankful I have two (future evil thinking) boys. LOL!
