So when did it happen? My son is not even 4 years old yet and already I’m just Mom. Not mommy. No we’ve moved on to just Mom. I thought I had more time to be mommy. Years still. There is a gap now you see, he’s calling me Mom and the baby only wants to say Dada and Uh Oh. Oh he can say Mama, but he won’t, he just teases me relentlessly. I’m not even sure exactly when it changed, over the past few months I guess, at first it was mostly mommy, sometimes mom, but over the past few weeks it’s been all mom all the time. Today, in the car, on the way home I asked him how school was, and he told me. The later, I asked again, trying to pry a little more information from the 3 year old and he said, ” I already told you in the car MOM!” Ok then, smart mouth and Mom…all in one day. That was when I realized, he’s calling me Mom all the time. I’m glad he’s more independant and all, but it’s just a little bittersweet.
